Error applying update to SAS Drive
I got the following error while running the .exe file to update the firmware on a hard drive in a PE R610 server:
The operation was not successful because the device buffer write has failed. Run diagnostics to verify configuation and try again.
I initially tried installing this update via OpenManage Essentials but the task failed so I then went directly to the server needing the update, downloaded the update from Dell's site and ran the .exe file from the desktop of the server.
Any ideas?
Thank you,

I can tell you right now that I am using Windows Server 2012 as the management/update server. It is also a virtual server and has 6G of memory.. And I think I found the problem with that and that is my repository is empty! This is a new install so not sure why it did not get populated, but apparently I missed a step for that!
The server I was trying to update is running W2K8 R2, with 8G of memory.

KBeau,
Could you confirm the memory amount installed as well as the specific OS you are running the update under?
I ask as there are two possible issues you are experiencing. First is that the OS you are using is Server 2012, which would require you to use other firmware update tools such as Nautilus to update SATA HDD firmware. The other issue is most likely to be seen when running Windows 2008/2012 server with less than 8GB of memory (available physical memory). However, it is possible to run into the problem on servers that have more than 8GB of memory and servers running Windows 2003. Subsequent attempts to update the HDD firmware may succeed, particularly if system resources are freed up.
Let me know the details and we can go from there.
