Error: Baseboard management controller communication failure ? Help

Hi,

I have Poweredge 2950, and from last two days server started showing this error during boot:

Baseboard management controller communication failure

But it boots ok and loading windows server normally. I also tried to look into Openmanage but i everything looks green and OK.

Can you please tell me what that error means? and how to fix it?

ITTechPro,

Normally this is seen when there is a Drac 5 installed, and the firmware isn't higher than 1.51. If you would could you verify where it currently resides if installed?

If it is indeed below the require veresion, you can update with the link here - http://dell.to/1Ma16Vh

Let me know what you see.

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for quick reply. Can you please guide me how can i verify where it resides right now?

For version, here are Openmanage screenshots, not sure if it helps?

Should i still install Systems-Management_Firmware_D8GP9_WN32_1.65_A00.EXE update? and will it fix the error?

I'm just curious, is it critical error that i am receiving during boot? should i be worry?

The Drac (Dell Remote Access Controller) does show, in the screenshot provided, at version 1.60.

Try this, power down the server and then remove anything unnecessary from the server (drives, expansion cards, etc.).

◦Reseat all the cable connections (power, data), especially the riser card(s) on the left hand side of the chassis.

◦Using the jumpers on the  motherboard, clear the NVRAM.(jumper is shown below.)

Let me know the status after this.
