Flashing amber error indicator diagnostics
I have a power edge 840 running win2k server. The amber error light on the front is flashing. I've looked every where on the system but can't seem to find out whats going on. Are there any diagnositic tools out there that would allow me to find out why it's flashing?

Go to support.dell.com, enter your Service Tag or select PE840, select your OS, and under Systems Management, download and install OpenManage Server Administrator (Managed Node). This will let you view the hardware log and the reason the light is blinking.

It works great. Figured out that the case is open (though it isn't) So I'll have to check into replacing the sensor. Thank you!

With towers, it's also the front bezel that causes the intrusion alert if removed.

I have the same flashing amber light issue, but mine is at power up. In my case when you plug in the power cord and hit the power button I get the flash of the lights on teh keyboard, the power and HD lights are steady gree, the thrid starts blue and tehn goes to amber and flashes. There is nothing on the screen. Even though the Optical Drive light flashes and you can hear the HDs spin up and teh machine is the normal Dell noisy. Same takes palce with or without the Front cover being on.
