HELP-Server stuck on System Recovery Options

Hi, I had a power outage at my office today and found everything off when I came in. When I powered on the Server PowerEdge 2008 running win small business server 2008, it took me to a page called System Recovery Options. First page is asking "Select a keyboard layout". I hit "US".

Second page shows me a window "To access recovery options, log on as a local user.

To access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account."

User name: Administrator - it's the only option it provides.

Password -- I enter the admin password I've used since we bought the server but it keeps telling me "The user name or the password is incorrect".

I cannot get around this problem. When I try to log windows normally, the system brings back to a page asking if I want to Repair (which brings to me System Recovery Options) or Start Windows Normally.

I need to get passed this page or somehow log in in Safemode if that is even an option. Can someone please help me?? and forgive me in advance if this post is the wrong place.

Also, I'm not technical in the least bit. I have very minimal knowledge of stuff- small company so I had to learn about everything. So i'm the "tech guy" among many other things. thanks everyone!

Windows related issue- not hardware. Your best bet is to poke around on spiceworks or the MS knowledge base. Get the command prompt up and take a stab at some sfc commands.

Try: sfc /scannow

this is usually a good fist move. If you can get a specific error out of the system- or view logs by browsing from CMD, there is likely a better angle of attack.

could also be a bcd issue- but the sfc utility should take care of it. I recommend reading up on SFC and bootrec repairs. --Or first figure out how to retrieve/view windows logs.

Hi, I tried to run the sfc/scannow and a message appeared "Windows Resource Protection Could Not Start the Repair Service". not really sure what else to do.

I'd boot the install media and get the command prompt up that way- attempt SFC commands from there instead of the local recovery options. running chkdsk may not be a bad idea- but I haven't seen it fix many operating systems in this state- But I have not seen SFC error out like this either.

--May need to get a consultant/independent sys admin on-site. If you have a recent backup- it may be better to just restore.

--I would also run hardware diagnostics at some point to rule out the possibility of hardware failure- though PowerEdge systems are very good at flashing amber when anything is slightly wrong.
