Are you working with a PowerEdge 6900 or a Precision 690?  There is no PowerEdge 690, and both could have been configured with a PERC 5, although only the Precision 690 will support running XP on it.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "spares".  Drives cannot be used on a PERC 5 in a non-RAID configuration, meaning, if each drive was being used individually, EACH drive would be configured as a single-disk RAID 0.  If you reinstalled the OS on one in this configuration, the contents of the other drives should be completely unaffected - in fact, they should each show up automatically in Windows - so long as their configuration was not also deleted.

Boot to CTRL-R and tell us exactly what you see there.  If you have RAID Storage Manager installed (if not, you can install it), then some screen shots of the drives would be helpful.  Also, you should describe exactly what the configuration was, and exactly what you have done up to this point, using the correct terms as much as possible.
