How to install & configure Mixed Memory in PowerEdge R610

Hello Members,

I have got the following situation:

  • DIMM_A1: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_A2: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_A3: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_A4: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_A5: (empty)
  • DIMM_A6: (empty)
  • DIMM_B1: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_B2: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_B3: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_B4: 2GB 2Rx8 RDIMM
  • DIMM_B5: (empty)
  • DIMM_B6: (empty)

Total I have installed 16GB and I will add a memory of 16GB RDIMM, how can I do to use the maximum of RAM?

Thank you very much!!

Hi Robert,

My configuration was wrote incorrectly, my server have your configuration.

What is the best configuration if I only have 8x2Gb and 1x16Gb? Is possible to put all memories or I must buy another RAM of 16Gb?

Hi, how would I populate the slots if I have 8x8 GB sticks?

Hello could you please refer to page 118?

https://dell.to/3XNza2v

Depending on your memory type ( RDIMM or UDIMM ), you can proceed to populate.

@DELL-Young E, thanks! I have another question. How do I interpret the diagram table? I'm trying to figure out how to understand the location of slots for my memory configuration.

Hello, would this table help?

 And UDIMM doesn't apply.

@DELL-Young E Hi , following up from the last post, tried to set it up to show it as 64gb Instead I get 48gb or 56gb ,maybe I'm interpreting the chart incorrectly?

TheGodOfWar1337,

Would you confirm a couple things for us?

What are the specific slots you are trying?

How many processors are installed in the server?

If you access the BIOS, what Memory Mode is it showing to be in (Optimizer, Adv ECC)? I ask as the slot assignments will change between those.

Let me know and we should be able to be more specific.

Hello Chris,

I have attempted to use the slots indicated on the underside of the server's top panel for both modes. Depending on the slot I use, it displays either "optimizer" or "advanced ECC." With two processors installed and BIOS version 6.6.0, I occasionally encounter a memory error and a message stating that the BIOS has disabled certain slots, such as A1, B1, etc.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello, I would say in this case, I'd do a swap test on both A1 and B1 memory respectively. And I think you should see "optimizer".
