Identifying Specific PowerEdge in a Rack

I know there is an option in the Dell OpenMangage software to identify the chassis of the server you are working on. You check a box and hit apply and the blue light on the active bezel cycles on and off to identify the server's physical location. I have been desperately looking for a way to trigger that light via a software switch without having to push out the OpenManage client to every server in the rack. When we first started out with these 1U units, I would typically eject the CD drive to find a unit, but we typically keep the covers on so this is becoming a huge pain.

Does anyone know what switch that checkbox in OpenManage is flipping or have an alternative?

Besides OpenManage the only other way that I know would be if you have a DRAC installed in the server.  If you have a DRAC then you can use the racadm command to turn on the identify LED.

If your servers are 8th generation (1850, 2850, etc) and you have the BMC ip address set, you can use the ipmish tool to set the identify light on and off like this:

ipmish –ip 192.168.0.100 –u root –p calvin identify on
