iDRAC 9 version 6.00.00.00 High Fan Speed

I just upgraded the iDRAC firmware on a few of our servers (PowerEdge R340) to version 6.00.00.00 and the fans are now running at high speed, very noisy. I haven't changed the config at all, and the cooling settings appear identical to other R340s we have still running 5.10.10.00. An R540 I've updated is fine also. Anyone else noticed this? Has something changed governing the fan speeds?

I have that too, on three servers. I have reset the firmware iDRAC to 5.x, then the volume is back to normal. I hope we can find a better solution.

Hi @cholyoak,

You might not be the only one facing this issue. There are reports of similar issues on lower 14G servers: https://dell.to/3ybrlpe;

If your server is under warranty, I strongly suggest you to contact support to report the issue. In this forum, we have created a case for it too.

I may suggest you to rollback to the previous version at the moment till a newer update is posted.

Hi @ollibraun,

Thanks for the feedback. I would suggest opening a ticket with technical support to provide server logs for the engineers to collect and analyze.

Yep, rolling back to 5.10.30.00 fixes it. Ticket opened with support.
