iDRAC disabled
Hi,
I installed a new server M620 in the M1000e chassis. I went to web GUI to setup an ip address on the iDRAC, I got error 0x0080 and on the LCD screen
it says iDRAC disabled. I also noticed on the Web GUI that the power status of the server is disabled.
Could you please advise on how to activate iDRAC and power status on this server?
Thanks,

That sounds good. I would skip every other revision, so something like this:
You can do every 3rd update if you want, or any other variation. The issue with skipping a lot of updates is that the changes can sometimes be extreme and cause issues.

Hi Daniel,
I have 15 servers in this chassis with vmware environment, what's the impact on the servers?
Is there any procedure/documentation for the upgrade.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,

Hi,
Yes this is the only M620 blade server in the chassis.
CMC version: A02.1.0.200801211830

Hello bdjebbar
What version is the CMC? Is this the only 12th generation blade in the chassis? It sounds like the real issue is that the blade is not functioning in the chassis. We need to troubleshoot that instead of the DRAC. Once the server is able to power on the DRAC will likely work.
Thanks

That would be the problem. That is the original firmware released with the chassis back in 2008. Version 4.2 added support for 12th generation servers. You will need to be at 4.2 revision at a minimum.
I would suggest stepping up the CMC firmware to the latest version(4.4). I would not recommend going straight to that version. You can try to do that jump if you want, but it is typically not a good idea to jump that many revisions in an update. I typically only skip 1 update at a time when stepping something up.
Thanks

Hi Daniel,
Is there any difference between A00, A01 and A02?
Thanks,

The first couple of revisions(A05,A02) are the only ones you should bother with that number on. Ignore that A revisions on the rest of them. It is just the internal revision number of that update. If it is a full update then it will be an A00. If it is a patch update then it will be an A0x. Typically A00 adds features and fixes. A0x will only be fixes. These are internal Dell revisions that can be ignored.
Thanks

Hi Daniel,
Bear with me. I just want to make sure that I have understand and avoid any mistake.
My actual version is 1.0, so my first upgrade will be to 1.10 and 1.20 and so on.
Thank you.

There should be no impact, but I would plan on something going wrong. If everything goes to plan then the servers should not be affected. All that will happen is that the fans will run at maximum RPMs during the update process. I would recommend performing the updates during maintenance windows just in case something goes wrong though.
The download page for each version has installation instructions. You can click on the previous versions section to browse through the available versions. It looks like the earliest update we have available is 3.21:

Yes, the two CMC's have to be at the same firmware revision, so you will update one and then the other. The only way you can fully update one without the other is to remove one of the CMCs from the system.

The upgrade of the cmc-standby is still running and the upgrade of cmc-active wont work. It says upgrade is already running.

Hi Daniel,
I tried the upgrade and started with the cmc-standby, but i got this error:
CMC 1 Degraded: Micro Controller sensor for CMC, redundancy lost was asserted
Do I have to continue and upgrade cmc active?
Thanks.

It sounds like the update is still running. The CMC will go offline during the update. Wait for it to complete.
