Memory is configured but not usable
Hi,
I have a Dell PowerEdge T310 with Intel Xeon X3440 in it.
In theory it is supporting 6 x 4GB RAM
I wanted to upgrade my ram, from 8GB to 24GB.
It has two 4GB 1333 registered ecc sticks,so I have bought four more sticks with the same specs.
When I installed them, I got an error on the servers lcd screen saying:"Memory is configured but not usable"
My bios version is the latest possible. I have tried with four 4GB sticks, same error.
Any ideas?

Wrong speed/latency, wrong size, wrong layout, wrong type … something is wrong with it. Try a single stick in the first slot. I would probably send it back and buy something you can confirm the specs on.

Probably incompatible RAM. What is the make/model or specs of the existing and the new memory?

Thanks for the quick answer.
The two sticks working with the server, are Hynix HMT351R7BFR8A-H9 DDR3 DIMM 1330 Mhz 4096MB
The ones I bought were pulled from a server, it was working. It is the same Hynix brand, has nothing written on it, the PCB is green instead of blue, and it has radiators installed on.
