Sounds like you have the perfect reason to move to 4GB now :)

If no hardware was changed when this error appeared (RAM swapped, reseated, etc.), then you can try reseating the memory - or even swapping places.  Does the LCD panel indicate which DIMM is the bad one?  If so, swap DIMM's and see if it follows the memory or stays with the same slot.  Chances are, it is just the memory.  Worst case, it could be the slot/controller, which would mean a motherboard replacement.  If reseating/swapping doesn't work, try clearing the NVRAM, using the jumpers on the motherboard.  Many strange memory issues can be resolved by clearing the NVRAM.

Sorry for the delay, finally had a chance to try the suggestion. DIMM 1 was not being detected so I pulled it cleaned it and the board connector reseated it and reset the NVRAM. worked great.
