Memory upgrade

I purchased  4 x 4gb of pc3 10600 1333 mhz registered ecc RAM for my server as is called for in the t110 II specs but it will not boot.

The exact modules read SAMSUNG 4GB 2Rx4 PC3-10600R-09-10-E1-P1  M393B6170FHD-CH9         1030

These shoul work but it doesn't and i get error code 1.

What am i missing here?

Hi,

As I can see your memories are RDIMM however, T110 II has no RDIMM support. T110 II supports UDIMM(Unbuffered) I'm sharing some important pieces of information as below;

By the way, you'd be careful that the RAMs are Dell certified because that can also cause problems.

The PowerEdge T110 II will support DDR3 memory providing a high-performance, high-speed memory interface capable of low latency response and high throughput. For the Intel-based T110 II, there will be up to 4 total DIMMs supported. Additional memory specifics regarding memory include:

  • 2Gb DRAM technology
  • Supports 2 channels per processor
  • Supports Un-buffered (UDIMM) ECC DDR3 DIMMs.
  • DDR3 speeds of 1333 and 1600 (with Ivy Bridge Processor) supported
  • Single Rank and Dual Rank UDIMMs supported
  • No RDIMM support
  • Low-voltage(LV) DIMM supported @ 3.5V only
  • Non-ECC DIMMs are not supported
  • Support for up to 32GB UDIMM memory (with 4 x 8GB UDIMMs)
  • No support for quad rank DIMMs
  • Single DIMM configuration only with DIMM in socket A1

No I cant see that and I have no clue what all those numbers mean or why it has to be buffered or un buffered or ecc or non ecc or why the machine is made so picky and I'm getting really frustrated. I want to use it for AutoCAD and am trying to get it upgraded to be able to do so. I paid ten bucks for it at a habitat for humanity re-store and have never had so many problems trying to upgrade memory and video in a computer. The video card i bought should work it it but doesnt either. Yhis is getting to be more trouble than it is worth. I am not a man of means and have anxiety problems and im tempted to take a hammer to the thing, I've never been really impressed with dell computers but I like the Xeon processor.

Sorry to hear this, when you upgrade parts in the models you have preferred, I recommend you to check the parts that are compatible with that model. Before making a purchase with your sales representative, it is helpful to check if it is compatible with the model you want to use. Because a part of the same brand even may not be suitable for the model you are using. The first 5 letters of the RAM list I shared in the previous post represent the part code of that RAM.

Considering the work you want to do, a workstation device looks better suited than this entry-level server. Servers are customized to work with parts with firmware approved by their brand (such as long uptime and durability). Server type computers do not support a wide variety of graphics cards, some server models support graphics cards that are not suitable for end-users. (Like Cloud Computing) I found two articles to help you. I think it might be useful to review these two articles on server and workstations.

Like i said i don't have much in the way of money and i got it for ten dollars so i have to do what i can with what i have. Rather than point out what's better suited maybe you could help me figure out how to make the machine i have get the job done. It runs windows 10 professional just fine and the Xeon processor is awesome. If I could find a workstation motherboard that was I could put the Xeon processor in that is not so finicky and doesn't cost hundreds of dollars that would be a lot of help. I turned off the raid feature but kept the card in place so as to keep the drives usable plus added three one terabyte drives salvaged from DVR's that are connected to the onboard sata controller. The 3.5 inch video drives work well once formatted to NTFS and seem very reliable. One of them I acquired three years ago and I had been using as a portable without problems. The 3.1GHz Xeon processor is also awesome, it rips a DVD at super high quality in under 2 hours. My lenovo ideapad has a core i5 and it takes 6 to 8 hours to do the same job. It would be awesome to be able to just buy what would be the best but I have a small amount of money to work with so I have to do what I can within the limits of my income.
