Memory Won't Work in poweredge SC430

Hi There,   I Have recently purchased some Memory for my Dell PowerEdge SC430 but it will not work in the server.   The RAM came from a third party (not Dell) and is of the following spec;   4x 1GB DDR2-667MHz ECC Unbuffered

Why Won’t The RAM Work In The Server?

The Server Just Stops Posting and displays a 1, 3 on the front panel. I know this relates to a memory error, but what could be the problem?

I am of the understanding that the server should support this RAM?

  Cheers

how can a memory be "incompatible"?

surely a 1GB DDR2-667 Unbuffered ECC is the same as another 1GB DDR2-667 Unbuffered ECC.

It sounds like your memory is incompatible. You can try to go back to the original memory, update the bios to the latest (if you're not already on the latest version) and try again.

Check crucial.com, kingston.com and/or dell.com and use their memory configurators to guide you to guaranteed compatible memory for a Poweredge 430SC.

Nope. There are things like speed, cache latency and other factors that will need to be recognized and accepted by the system in question.

If you compare this to this you'll notice that for the SC430 all modules have a cache latency (CL) of 4, where Crucial does offer faster memory, but with a higher latency. Possibly the SC430 only accepts a CL of 4.
