PE2500 Error messages from MStask, cannot BU

I am running OS 2000 on a PE2500, I was getting some weird spikes which were causing my system to reboot manually. I tried to run dx from Powerchute plus, it cannot find my UPS. So I ordered a new battery. When I checked my event log it shows MStask has not been able to perform a back up since 082606. I went to the task scheduler, when I try to open an event I get an error, General page initialization failed. The specific error is: 0x0041315: Task scheduler is not running. I tried to start task scheduler from the advanced tab, same error message. Went to MMC and tried to reset tasks in services, receive error message 1721. Tried to resolve and just am at my last wits end. If you can help, please give very detailed info, cannot think anymore.
