PE6350 doesn't POST.

Hi.

I've got a problem with PowerEdge 6350 - it does power up and all the indicators on the front panel are green. Monitor remains in stand-by state. All 3 indicators on the keyboard lights up for a second but that's it. No beeping, nothing on the screen.

The power button indicator blinks, and there is a indicator on the motherboard that blinks also.

Hello, Can you PING this server ?? If not, then it seems like the server is in a Sleep mode. Do u see any LABELS on the system board for that Flashing LED ??

It doesn't have DRAC card or any ethernet card. There are no any labels. There's nothing about it in documentation.

Try releasing the flea power & clearing the NVRAM !!

It didn't help. Keeps blinking with the power button indicator and on the mainboard. I've got no idea what is going on. If there is anyone that owes one of these : What happens when you take out memory board and power on?

Sure u can try that. Once the system detects no memory board.... it should BEEP out loud. Indicating that the power is going to the memory slots. then put it back & restart.

I tried that. I have even tried removing all processors, pci cards, memory board and then turn on. The situation is the same. No beeps, nothing on the screen - only that power button blinking..

Easy to say - that's impossible to do for me. But thanks for your help.

The system board is Faulty. Get it Replaced.

Possible problem now, maybe after trouble shooting began, is that is doesnt have everything needed to post.

6350 has pretty high min to post reqs:

proc, motherboard, mem riser, 4 sticks of ram (yep, 4), 2 power supplies plugged in, pdb and cables, and the control panel.

Won't post if even one of those things is missing

Thanks for reply. 4 processors, motherboard, mem riser, 8 sticks of RAM - but I also tried 4, 3 power supplies, pdb, control panel - everything where it is supposed to be, and green lights everywhere. I'll try getting a replacement for a memory board but that will be difficult. If i only know what does this blinking mean..

We just experienced a similar problem after moving a PE6350 system out of our data center. Fortunately the problem occured while taking the system out of commision. Just means we couldn't sell it on the surplus market.

The PE6350 would power on but had no video output and no beeps at all. We saw three solid green indicators on front, three solid green indicators on power supplies, solid green indicator on main system board. No indication that there was a problem, other than the fact that we did not receive video output. We were able to confirm power supplies, fans, memory, and memory board worked fine by testing in another PE 6350.

NONE of the four processors would work in the other system. We tested individual CPUs. As far as we could tell, they were dead! Just an FYI, the working PE 6350 would boot with a single, dual, and quad CPU configuration. We tested each of the CPUs from the dead PE 6350 in a single CPU configuration on the working PE 6350. Same symptoms, no video output and no beeps.

When we went to swap system boards, I found that a loose screw was sitting on the system board. No idea where the screw came from, since these allow for screwless access and maintenance. Regardless, we assumed the system board was also ruined and did not try testing it. You may need to replace your system board AND your processors.

If possible, test your processors in another system before spending anything on a replacement system board.
