Power Edge SC1420

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give me an advice for this server. I am about to buy this for my training purposes. what I want to achieve is to set up this server and do some Hyper-V installation. I want to install server 2008 then install hyper-v role ( 2-3 virtual server ).

for I know hyper-v can be installed in x64 bit system and done a little research and this server was x64 bit capable. I just want to make sure that what I want to achieve is suitable for this server. I think this server has 2GB RAM.

please advice.

thanks - anthony

Lamynoht,

The SC1420 doesn't support 2008 or Hyper-v on the server.  2003 and linux are , but not 08 Hyper-V.

Let me know if this helps.

The processor might be 64-bit, but it does not support hardware-assisted virtualization (called VT - Virtualization Technology - on Intel procs), which is required for Hyper-V.  The only virtualization you can do on this is ESXi 3.5, which does not require VT, but performance will suffer, you'll be limited to 32-bit virtual machines, and you'll need more than 2GB of RAM to run pretty much anything.  You would be better off installing Hyper-V on a desktop or laptop than on this machine, unfortunately.
