Poweredge 1600sc Continuous Beeps

When the server was rebooted recently it began to beep continuously...and still is.  I have gone into the Dell Openmanage software and nothing is indicating a problem.  In fact, nothing has changed.  This is driving me NUTS.  It boots to Win2k server no problem.  Ran diagnostics...no errors

I think it means hardware failure. Let me see if I can dig up some information for you.

Hi Guys

There is no response to this continous beep on the Power Edge 1600sc Server - I have a similar problem. Please could you update me on this.

Is the beep once every 10 seconds or so?  I have the same problem that I have been trying to solve for the past couple of weeks.  It is driving me crazy!!

There could be a couple of different options - Important - are you getting the beeping before or after the Windows screen?  If it starts AFTER the Windows screen, it is not the server hardware.  In this case, it is a driver - you should be able to type net stop beep at the command prompt and turn it off or boot to Safe Mode and have no beeping.  Could also be your UPS hardware - listen carefully - is it definitely coming from the server?

Hardware:  RAID controller -  PERC 4 puts off a once-per-second beep.  See link below to find out why.

Best method - check Server Adminstrator - hardware logs can show you the hardware problem, if there is one.  If it is a hard drive, then you can see which one.  If you don't have it installed already, download the file below and run to extract it.  After it is extracted, run C:\Openmanage\windows\setup.exe.  Choose the Custom installation and make sure that Storage Management (and all subfeatures) is being installed.
