PowerEdge 1950 BIOS Update

Hey there,

I want to upgrade the BIOS to 2.7.0

There is no OS installed on the system at the moment, and of course there is no Floppy Disk Drive.

What is the best way to upgrade the BIOS, CD ISO or USB Key   -  and what file should i download from above.

On my other servers, an ISO file is usually available for download and burn to a CD.

Regards,

Phil

You can use the "non-packaged" version with most bootable media.

Probably the easiest/fastest way to do this is to install Server 2008 or 2008 R2, which usually takes less than 15 minutes, then run the update designed for Windows.

Other than that, you would need to use SUU (Server Update Utility) in conjuction with SBUU (Systems Build and Update Utility).  Boot to SBUU, choose Firmware Update, then when asked for the update repository, insert the SUU DVD.

Be sure that, if updating firmware individually (not SUU/SBUU), that you also update the ESM/BMC after updating the BIOS, the update other system firmware (backplane, NIC, RAID, HDD, DRAC).
