PowerEdge 2950 memory issue
Hello,
We have upgraded the memory in two of our PowerEdge 2950's to have 32GB, one of which is working fine, the other however isn't. As you can see from the screen shot below the server is seeing the 32GB and all are showing green. However the amount available to the OS is only ~600MB.
Does anyone know what could be wrong?
Thanks
Shaun

The BIOS is updated to the latest version, and we got the memory online - not from dell.
We will try taking half the memory out and see what happens.
Thanks

Hi,
Is the system bios up to date? Did you get the memory from us? You could try taking out half of the memory and trying to isolate a single dimm that is causing the issue.

The reason he asks is because if you got the memory from Dell, it is guaranteed to have the specs to be compatible with the server. It doesn't have to be Dell memory, but the specs are important ... what are the specs of the memory you are using?

We bought this type of memory: Samsung 64GB (16x4G) DDR2-667 PC2-5300F Server Ram.
It is working fine in the other 2950 we have, we put 8x in each server

There are three revisions of the 2950: I, II, and III. Are yours different revisions? They have slightly different specs like supported memory, CPU's, bus, TPM, SATA/IDE, etc. BIOS up to date on both?

Sorry for the late reply, I just realised the forum is back up.
We have the III version of the server and all of the firmware is up to date. I downloaded the bootable ISO with the firmware on and ran it and we still have the problem. Interestingly we have put the 2GB sticks back in and its only seeing the same ~600mb of memory.
So it doesn't seem to be anything to do with the 4GB sticks we used, but everything is returning a green tick on the open manage server admin page.

What OS and Bios version is on the one that is working? If different, what are the same on the one that is not working?

The BIOS version is the same on both. Both are running Linux, i've also tried booting into a Live DVD on the server and it also gets ~600mb of memory.
