Poweredge P2 Connector

Could any one tell me what connecto P2 on the motherboard is used for.

My Poweredge is not working at all when this cable is plugged into to the motherboard.

Not plugging it in will start the cooling fans from both the cabinet and the CPU's, so I am sure that the powersupply is OK, but I would be in a much better position to pin the problem down if I know what this power onnector is used for.

I need more information.

Which PowerEdge Server?
Where is the connection on the motherboard?
Where does the other end of the cable go?

The motherboard is the poweredge 1600sc.

the connector I would like to know the use of is connector P2. the System manual mentions that this is for the systemboard power. I noticed that P1 connector that is located next to it is also for the systemboard. It seems that these connectors provide powere for different components.

Hi,

Is this the same system you posted about last month with the non-dell processor(s)?

The P2 connection is to connect power to the motherboard. The problem "could" still be the power supply with the cable that connects to P2, it "could" also be the processor(s) but more than likely the motherboard has failed.

Yes, this is the same system with the posting last month.

If I connect the power supply P2, I can still see that the components try to start (the coolling fans are moving about an inch to stop almost immediately.

I have forwarded the motherboard back to the US supplier for repair. I was just wondering what could be broken and what I could do to prevent the system from breaking again once I get it returned.

I couldn't find any where the vrm's. Am I correct to say that the motherboard doesn't have removable VRM's but that these vrm's are on the motherboard and fully integrated for the 1600sc?

Hi Rein,

The symptoms you describe do indicate the motherboard or processor failure. Unfortunately, there is no way to test further in the field, unless you have a known good processor to install in the machine. I can only recommend processors from Dell as they have been specifically tested on this motherboard.

The PowerEdge 1600 SC's VRM are integrated in to the motherboard and are not field replaceable like on a few of our systems.
