Poweredge R230 - Memory population error

We have one Poweredge R230 and want to upgrade the memory from the stock 8GB to 64GB, we've already tried multiple configurations  of the same RAMs but always receive the error "Memory population error - Please remove unsupported DIMMs  from the system."

The latest configuration we tried was 1x/4x Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 UDIM which according to the Crucial page are supported for the Poweredge R230.

Any idea what could cause the issue?

Pascuin,

Would you confirm the part number or specs for the original dimms? Also, does the server start with just the new dimm installed, or does it error as well?

Lastly, you may want to verify that the server is up to date and current on BIOS and iDrac as well.

Let me know.

Thanks for the quick reply Chris

Below a photo of the original DIMM shipped with the server.

The server does not start with any of the new DIMMs installed and always throws the "Memory population error". If one of the 16GB is in the A1 or if all 4 are filled in all the slots. The server only boots without an error with the original DIMM.

We've updated the BIOS to 2.9.0, the latest version, without any change.

Pascuin,

I figured out the issue, which is that the Dimms aren't compatible. The reason being is that they are Non-ECC dimms, and all the Poweredge servers require ECC dimms.

Chris,

Thank you for your response is there a sheet where we can look up the DIMMs that are compatible with the Poweredge R230 in order to avoid ordering yet another set of non-compatible ones?

Also I don't understand why these would be listed on the Crucial website for the Poweredge R230 as being compatible.

Hi,

You can refer to our support site, https://dell.to/2zxRe7U to check on the user guide, it's listed supported memory specifications.

I do too find it not understanding that they put it on their website that it's supported.

We don't have a list, but you can look here on the site, or the ones I have listed for 16gb 2400 is Part numbers 2TX5N, CX1KM, OR F6RWY.
