PowerEdge R230 power button not working

This is not just a 'How to...' question - the power button appears to be not capable of communicating with the power supply at all. It does not illuminate when pressed, and apparently fails to do anything else. The power supply itself is in good order; and I have faithfully followed all instructions for power draining and even resetting the iDRAC, all without the slightest indication of any electrical connection between the power button and the power supply.

I've not been able to find any information on checking/replacing the power button and its associated wiring/circuitry. Is this strictly a Dell technician job? I've previously had to replace a similar bit of kit on an old Optiplex, which was straightforward enough and the part readily available, but I can find no clue in the manual about replacing the R230's physical power button.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Hello,

it is a dual PSU configuration? In this case did you test the system with just one PSU, both in the same position?

Try also to remove internal components.

If it the same issue, then it could be an issue in the control panel (in which there is the power button) or maybe the motherboard.

Yes you should contact our technical support and ask for an estimate for reparation.

Hope it helps

Thanks

Marco

Thanks for your response, Marco.

Not a dual PSU, nor a spare that I could try. The power supply self-test is fine, as I indicated.

I don't want to disturb internal components at random - is there a particular one that you had in mind?

An estimate would no doubt require return of the R230, which I don't want to consider as it's out of warranty. Having experience of local Dell technicians,  I also prefer to avoid another encounter with one whose diagnostic skills are little better than mine.

I'd rather know if the power button/circuitry is individually replaceable, and if so, what the part number is?

Thanks, Young - fair enough, but not good news...

You refer to R430 parts. Are they the same for R230?
