PowerEdge R520 - Virtual disk bad block medium error is detected
Hi All,
We recently replaced a failing HDD in one of our servers (PowerEdge R520).
After replacing a failing HDD and re-syncing, a Virtual Disk is coming up with an error.
From within Windows Event Viewer we receive the follow event:
Virtual disk bad block medium error is detected.: Virtual Disk 0 (Virtual Disk 0) Controller 0 (PERC H710 Mini)
When you log in to Dell OpenManage the system health indicates a problem with the storage device.
In the storage dashboard, it also indicates an issue, pointing to virtual disk (0).
When you click on "PERC H710 Mini", virtual disk status is critical.
Clicking on the virtual disk gives an indication that the Virtual Disk has bad blocks.
We have ran a consistency check, but it still comes back indicating Virtual Disk has Bad Blocks.
Checking the Physical drives, there is a status of ok on both, so I'm a little confused.
Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

Hi,
The most likely reason is that the other drive in the mirror also had bad blocks. When the drive was replaced those bad blocks were copied over. http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln111497/double-faults-and-punctures-in-raid-arrays?lang=en
To remove the error you probably will need to delete and recreate the array, possibly also replace the other drive in the mirror.
