Problem PowerEdge 2950 and Visual Foxpro

Hi,

3 weeks ago, we installed een new server, a Poweredge 2950 wit 2 xeon prc, 4 GB memory and 4x SAS 300 GB drives in a raid5 config. Now we have probleemen with our Visual Foxpro appl. Frequently hangs the appl, get the error 'delay write error'. This appeard by different users at different times. Herefore we had a PowerEdge 4400 en we have 4 years no problemen. I read something at the internet over TOE. Can that be the problem ? Other ideas ?

Thnx in advance.

Hi!

it's advisable to run a diagnostics on the system... check for HDD's, RAID memory, System memory & procs.

Hi JP,

We experience the same problem on our Dell Servers (2950) same specs except RAID config (RAID1) We have about 4/5 application that spontaneous hangs.

I don't  now about TOE, but we made a start on our test server (2950) with the newest drivers, these include:

- NIC drivers from 2.4 to 2.6

- BIOS (from 1.10 to 1.20)

- Backplane (from 1.14 to 1.27)

- SCSI Firmware (from 5.01 to 5.03 PERC 5i)

- SCSI drivers from 1.18 to 1.21 PERC 5i)

I let you now the results.

Regards,

Japh

Did you ever get this issue resolved?  I have a brand new 2950 with a fresh install of win 2003 with a few websites hosted on it that connect to external sql servers.  When I hit the site it randomly lags.  Seems fine with html pages but asp pages are a problem.

Hi,

Yes, the problem is solved. First we replace the Nic with een Intel Pro 1000 and the problems returns to 2-5 times a day. After that i have installed the following hotfixes from microsoft :

After the installs whe have no further problems and i am a happy man till the next problem...

That sounds like my problem for sure!  Could you email me the hotfixes if they aren't to big.  I'd rather not have to waste 2 hours dealing with microsoft's tech support to obtain them.
