R420 graphics card
Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to a E5-2450 V2, assigned all cores to a single VM and even then when I use 100% CPU during transcoding the fans go to 100%! Firstly would this be a heat issue? Thermal paste maybe? As I never heard the fans with the old CPU. Secondly can I add a GPU? If so what do I need to do?
Thanks

TRU5T,
I would start with verifying that the server is up to date on the BIOS and iDrac, as the iDrac itself is what manages the fans, and when updating you need to make sure it is updated with the BIOS.
As far as a GPU, the R420 doesn't list any GPU's, and I am not showing it as supported on the platform.
Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the response! I was advised to update everything prior to changing the cpu so bios etc are all updated. Just found it strange that now the fans run so high under cpu load.

Hi,
We're unsure if there is any changes with the hardware algorithm and hardware usage, the engineering has developed updates for the firmware to accommodate better performance without degrades, hence that's probably the reason you can see fan running at higher speed with large CPU capacity usage.
