R430 Sata controller does not support SAS disk?
Hi,
I bought a new SAS disk for our R430 server until I found BIOS does not see the disk. Then with service tag, I was able to find following has been included in the order
321-BBNL : 2.5" Chassis with up to 8 Hot Plug Hard Drives, Emb SATA
Artikelnummer
Antal
Beskrivning
RX20N
1
ASSEMBLY, CHASSIS, 8X2.5 HPLGHD, R430
TW13J
4
ASSEMBLY, CARRIER, MOUNTING, BLANK , HARD DRIVE, 2.5, V3
FHGNF
1
ASSEMBLY, CABLE, Serial ATA, MOTHERBOARD, X8BP, R430
1. So does this mean I the SATA controller won't support SAS disk at all? It looks the SAS disk I bought they don't allow us to return it, what is the best solution? or do I have any misunderstanding?

Hello
It looks like the system was configured to use the embedded SATA controller. The cabling for the drives connects to that controller. The embedded controller is SATA only. If you set the controller to RAID mode it enables the S130 RAID controller. I don't think any of our embedded controllers support SAS.
You would need to install a hardware controller and likely change the cabling to use SAS disks. The backplane should support SAS and SATA, but I suggest that you check to make sure before changing everything else out. You can find documentation on the system and controller support pages.
Upgrading from the embedded controller to a hardware controller is not supported. That means we do not have kits available for retail sale with the required parts to perform this upgrade. You should be able to purchase the controller via retail sales, but the cabling and other necessary parts would need to be purchased through resellers or our spare parts department.
