R610 Boot Error

We have a R610 and when i went to install an extra NIC in the PCI-E slot, i was greeted with the above error:

I tried both PCI-E slots with the same error. Both PSU's are working. I find it hard to believe this NIC is drawing too much power? We have the exact same NIC in an older gen 3 1950 and it works fine. I take the NIC out and the server boots without the error. Am i missing something?

Hi,

A couple of things to check:

- When you have the NICs installed, do you get a higher than usual fan speed?

- What is your current BIOS, iDRAC and LCC version?

I have seen that error with certain older versions of the iDRAC firmware.

Fan speed does seem high but it probably is because of the cover being removed during this process

Bios = 6.4.0 iDRAC = 1.20.00 (Build 1) LCC = 0.0.0.32768

I cant seem to find the iDRAC firmware on the dell support site for our 610.....

iDRAC firmware is really ancient; latest is 2.80.

I would advise on "stepping up" the firmware before you move onto  that version. E.g. 1.20 > 1.80 > 2.80. Unfortunately I can't say what are the best versions to step up to, so that would be best you decide that.

I would also advise on upgrading the LCC version before you proceed to upgrade the iDRAC. I would recommend on using the LCC repair package from here:

www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails;fileId=3467737922&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r610&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SV

You can find the latest iDRAC and some legacy versions from these two links:

downloads.dell.com/.../poweredge-r610.html

en.community.dell.com/.../4357.idrac6-home

The LCC and the iDRAC can be upgraded using the firmware upgrade link in the iDRAC web interface. The LCC repair package should be a .usc file and the iDRAC firmware package should be a .img file (after you extract it from the self extractor .exe).

Here is a tutorial on how to do it (official Dell video):

I have updated the LCC and iDRAC. Now i will reinstall the NIC and see what happens or do i need to adjust some type of power settings in the iDRAC/OMSA?

/EDIT

Same error with that NIC installed. Any other ideas?
