R610 Memory dilemma

What is the BIOS revision on the server? Also what is the BIOS Memory Mode set to? Lastly, what are the dimms installed as well as the new ones? Are they Rdimm or UDimms?

BIOS rev is 6.4.0

BIOS Memory is set to : Optimizer mode

Installed DIMMs are the 4x1GB in Slots (A1,A2) & (B1&B2), I think they are RDIMMS. this is what it says on both:

1  GB: ELPIDA - 1GB 1Rx8 PC3-8500E7-10-DP.

16GB: MT36KSF2G72PZ-1G4E1HF. 16GB 2RX4 PC3L-10600R-9-13-E2

That is referring to the dimms ranking. So your 1gb are single ranked and the others are dual ranked. The Udimm and Rdimms is indicating Registered or Unregistered.

The issue I believe you are having is that with number of dimms you are using you are not able to match the dimms across the channels. ALso have you tested the 16gb dimms alone in A1, B1 to test them. If so test those and then go with 16gb in A1, B1 and 1gb in A2 and B2. Does it function normally?

16Gb DIMMS alone in A1, B1 worked fine, mode is "Optimizer"

16gb in A1, B1 and 1 gb in A2 and B2; did not work. error = Unconfigurable Memory.

I will go with the 2 x 16GB for a total of 32GB.
