r730xd hangs on "Initializing Intel QuickPath Interconnect" after CPU upgrade

Have a Dell PowerEdge r730xd

upgraded from dual E5-2630v3 to dual E5-2697v4. Just changed cpus, nothing else. was working before.

Cant get it to boot past "Initializing Intel QuickPath Interconnect"

idrac works fine and I believe everything should be updated to support E5-v4 family

have the dual 750w psu and the taller heatsinks

idrac does still report the E5-2630v3 when go to hardware tab for some reason

Please help

Turned out it was bad CPU, specifically the memory controller. I got it to work by only populating certain ram slots NOT following the order in the manual.
In my case, only filling slots to the left of the CPU (i.e A3,A4,A7,A8,A11,A12, and same numbers for B)

Ultimately just replaced the CPUs with dual E5-2696v4 and they work great so far and all the ram slots work

It likely still reports the older CPU as it hasn't finished Collect System Inventory On Restart (CISOR) yet because it never finished POSTing.

so I tried each of the E5-2697v4 in a single cpu configuration, and it still wont boot. But this time it gets stuck on "configuring memory"

I also tried using a single stick of ram in the A1 slot with no change to results.

Still cant get it to post. Will try to put a single E5-2630v3 back in and check again to make sure everything is updated i guess. Pretty sure everything relevant was updated beforehand tho

I think for some reason it is not happy with the E5 v4

Everywhere I look I see that if the bios is updated it should work with E5 v4 family

I am at a loss

Have you figured out your issue?  We are doing the same thing but with the 2695v4 and it starts loading windows for about a minute and then blue screen of death.

Hello, I'm afraid I don't see a "dual E5-2697v4." here.

Hello, could you please check out page 21 for the 2697V4?
