R810 Memory Configuration help please

Hi all,

First time server owner here so please forgive me if this question is blazingly obvious to the average user. My Poweredge R810 came with all 32 slots filled with 4GB sticks. It has 4 cpu's. I purchased 8x 16GB sticks but had issues installing and getting it recognised, then when it was recognised the bootup told me it was not optimal and I definitely noticed the server itself was very sluggish. Is it not advisable to mix 16/4's? I have ordered another 8x16GB which will give me 16x16. What is the best thing to do in this scenario? I am limited by cost and availablility in Australia right now. Thanks for any suggestions in advance

You can refer "System Memory" section on Page 100 of below link for more details on memory configuration for R810. The link also have sample memory configurations. As you have sixteen 16GB modules you can insert it on "A1,A2,A3,A4,B1,B2,B3,B4,C1,C2,C3,C4,D1,D2,D3,D4" slots

Hi @DELL-Shine K ,

My apologies for the delay in response, I was waiting for the extra RAM to arrive so that I could try the configuration you suggested in your response. The configuration works and the server boots with no memory conflict issues which is awesome. I have however run into a new problem. With my new configuration, my game servers are running slower with the extra ram than they were without it (high ping etc).  My previous configuration was all 32 x 4GB sticks but they were DDR3 PC-10600 1333mhz. My new ones 16 x 16GB DDR3 PC-8500 1066mhz. The reason I chose those was because the manual said it only runs at the 1066mhz clock speed anyway. Is that the reason the performance is suffering or could it be because I now have empty slots on my board?

Thanks for your time

I'm not sure also if this is relevant but the 4GB sticks are 2Rx4 and the new 16GB are 4Rx4.

Stats for the 16GB Sticks

These 4GB sticks mixed with These 4GB sticks

Sorry, I was unable to edit my comment above so I had to make a new post.
