Random pauses when accessing network drives

Hello everyone,  I have been experiencing a very weird problem.  I have a PowerEdge 1800 server running Windows 2003 server and setup on RAID 5 with 3 SATA drives.   It's primarly a file server.  The problem is that randomly throught the day the client machines pauses exactly at the same time.  When I mean pause, windows still functions as far as doing local commands(ex. goto control panel or something like that) but anything that is accessing the server shares freezes momentarly usually around 20-30 seconds.  Then resumes with out intervention.  It happens about 5-10 times a day.  I was on the server once when it happened and I couldn't access any of the drives until the pause was over.  Windows remembered the commands that I clicked on such as clicking on drive C but just didn't do anything until the pause was over.  No spikes on the CPU during this time also.

Anyone seen something like this before?

I've got a similar problem with a Poweredge 6950. Accessing resources across the network for example SQL Server management studio or a remote desktop produces consistent and very noticeable delays in response - up to 30 seconds and random freezes which I have not observed when accessing the server directly. Still looking into it - all drivers have been updated but the problem still occurs.

Just an update, I have disabled shadow copies but the problem still remains.  Anyone have a suggestion on where to look next?

I have this same issue on a 2650.  Anybody ever figure it out?
