second hand poweredge 650 - boot up problems

I have been passed a secondhand poweredge 650 with :-

celeron 1.8 with 2gig memory, 2 x 200gig drives.

I think the previous drives had been removed, and the cables with them. :(

I replaced the IDE cable to the two drives, using one cable with master/slave settings.

I have connected a VGA monitor and standard ps2 type keyboard and mouse.

When I turn the power on - the green power light blinks at me. The motherboard has a green light showing that power seems to be reaching that board.

It does not look like the fans are running.

The only change I can make to the situation is a button close to the USB port on the frount panel - if that is pressed a blue light amost above the button (slightly to the right) starts blinking too.

Nothing is being displayed on the monitor and no sounds can be heard.

Do I have a dead board in this machine - or have I done something wrong in the setup.

I am trying to get to the cmos setup system to change settings prior to installing linux.

ChrisRLG,

The green power button blinking just means the system is receiving power but not powered on.  The other button on the front panel is the system identification button, this makes the identification light blink blue to identify the server in a rack.  Since we do not know the last state of the server, I would suggest starting with reseating the internal components, maybe taking it down to a minimum configuration.  From the details you have given, it seems like the system is receiving power but not enough to power the system up, it could be a bad PS or system board.

Thanks Dennis.

It was actually mush easier than that - you can have a good laugh.

I had not realised the flashing Green light was also a switch :smileysurprised: :smileyvery-happy:

It all works fine.

I have reached the cmos and can see both drives, so just now need to install the op system to try it out.
