Server Update Utility 6.5.3 has been posted!
Howdy everyone,
Some of you will be happy to know that Dell has posted the latest Server Update Utility v 6.5.3 on the support site.
NOTE: although the files have .iso extensions, they are not .iso files, they are actually file segments and the files must be concatenated to create an .iso file.
To address a browser limitation around downloading large files (see Microsoft KB article 298618: You cannot download files that are 2 GB or larger - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298618), the Dell Server Updates DVD as a single ISO file is no longer available for web download. You need to do the following to get the DVD ISO:
*Download all ISO file segments into an empty subdirectory on your local hard drive. After you have downloaded all the file segments, run the following command to create the ISO file:
copy /b om* om653_suu_a00.iso [Windows]
cat om* > om653_suu_a00.iso [Linux]
Note: If the wildcard format above does not bring the file segments in the right order, run the following command instead to create the ISO file:
copy /b om653_suu_a00_FILE1.iso+om653_suu_a00_FILE2.iso+om653_suu_a00_FILE3.iso+om653_suu_a00_FILE4.iso om653_suu_a00.iso [Windows]
cat om653_suu_a00_FILE1.iso om653_suu_a00_FILE2.iso om653_suu_a00_FILE3.iso > om653_suu_a00.iso [Linux]
Use your DVD burning software to create a DVD from om653_suu_a00.iso.

I recently purchased a T110-II and went through the process to download these files realizing afterwards that this is too large to burn on a standard DVD. Even if I could burn it to a dual layer DVD would my server be able to read it? In the meantime I'm back to downloading 6.5.1

because everyone uses internet exploder right? wow, and the link you posted to the MKB has a workaround within it. In all of dells infinite wisdom *rolls eyes* you couldn't release this as 1 file through your own "download manager" or repository manager? You just had to break it down and over complicate it.
Whatever, downloading anyways. thanks

Don_Adams, if your T110-II has a DVD drive in it, then yes, your system can read a Dual Layer disk. Techpanda, I'm sorry you feel that way, I too wish we didnt have to do it this way. Repository Manager can still download the entire catalog and you can still create the Dual Layer disk :)

Thanks D-R, after pulling 6.5.1. down I realized once again that this wasn't going to fit on a single layer DVD. When all was all said and done I grabbed a tool that could extract an iso to disk... grabbed a USB stick and applied the update that way. Not the easiest way to go about this but the server is patched and I have MS Hyper-V up with a test VM on it so all is well.

I should probably note that SUU is really just a program that performs updates, and with each release, the contents (catalog) are updated and sometimes the program itself is updated as well. Repository Manager (RM) can always pull updates from the ftp site because it actually pulls the latest files that are listed in the catalog.cab file. BIG NOTE: the catalog is updated once a quarter (we just posted a new catalog in Dec.), and this means that if files are released to the support site between catalog releases, the catalog will not have the latest files in it. SUU is the same way, it is a quarterly release, so any files that are released after the last quarter will not be in the SUU. This is probably going to open a bucket of questions, so hit me:emotion-11:

Yep, thats how I do it too, with the USB keys being cheap these days, an 8GB key works great, just extract all the files from the iso, then copy to a USB key.

I forgot to note, to burn the SUU to a disc, you willl need a Dual Layer DVD disc. its too big for a normal DVD. I usually suggest folks use Repository Manager 1.4 instead of trying to dnload the entire SUU, especially if you just have a few models of servers to update. This is a demo of how RM works, the GUI has been updated in the latest release, but you can see how it works.
