I have been told several things about this - One is that it is the CD drive and as long as it is working that it is ok and another is that it is audio and that is sounds like they are competing and is causing one to become disabled so in short I don't know what the problem is and it is just to hard to actually talk to someone at dell unless you have a few hours. Hopefully we will figure it out soon.

This is an issue caused by a recent Windows Update.

 

Roxio says to deal with it and wait for a fix or uninstall the offending Update:

if the mini-drive isn't compatable with windows vista is there some kind of update for the driver...it won't read the information i have in the drive at all...it works fine on window XP...in fact i tryed the mini-drive i purchased from dell EVEN THAT DOESN'T WORK!!  what todo, what todo!! i want my mini-drive!! lol

uninstalling stopped the message from popping up, but did nothing for the mini-drive to function...

If you are still having a problem out of your Sonic Solutions DLA Driver there is now a patch to correct the problem. You must download a new version of Roxie. Click Run and go thru the installation setup. It will detect the old version if you have not already removed it. Just have it remove the old one in the options pop up.

Thanks for the information in this thread.  This computer is only 4 hours old, and we just got the message that Vista had disabled something that we did not know we even had.

 

We also found out that we cannot even contact Dell Technical Support regarding this machine as we are being told the service tag that is stamped on the top of this machine is  invalid.

 

How annoying is that?!  Maybe it is because we just took delivery of the machine today, will see if they recognise my service tag next week.  In the meantime, thanks again for the link
