Hello Robert,

Thank you for your reply and helpful answer!

I've heard that there was a BIOS update that increased the number of DIMMs that the system can have at 1333. (to two per chanel)

Will this upgrade is going to allow me to use 12DIMMsX8GB(1333MHz) and still get a speed of 1333MHz and total of 96GB?

Or use 12DIMMsX16GB(1333MHz) and still get a speed of 1333MHz and total of 192GB.

We have a Dell PowerEdge R710 that is running BIOS v2.0.13. Is it supported to update directly to version 6.4 or is there a BIOS upgrade path that we should follow?

Thank you!

Robert - thank you!

I updated the R710 per your instructions. It is now on BIOS version 6.4.0 and iDRAC version 1.99. However, the system memory speed is still coming back as 800 MHz.

We have populated the R710 with twelve (12) Kingston KTD-PE313Q8LVK3 modules:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239718&Tpk=20-239-718

It is configured this way:

AAAAAAAAA               BBBBBBBBB
147258369   CPU   CPU   963852741
=========               =========

MMXMMXMMX               XMMXMMXMM

M = Memory is populated in this slot
X = Memory is NOT populated in this slot

These are the BIOS Memory Settings:

  • System Memory Size: 192 GB
  • System Memory Type: ECC DDR3
  • System Memory Speed: 800 MHz
  • System Memory Voltage: 1.35V
  • Video Memory: 8 MB
  • System Memory Testing: Enabled
  • Memory Operating Mode: Optimizer Mode
  • Node Interleaving: Disabled
  • Memory Operating Voltage: Auto

Is there something else we missed?

Thanks so much!
