T110 II: System Services Update Required
I seeing the System Services Update Required message during POST on my T110 II server. Server is running Ubuntu.
I've tried to update the firmware using bootable media as described in:
Updating Dell PowerEdge servers via bootable media / ISO
https://dell.app.box.com/v/BootableT110II/folder/60646167796
If I use the SMART ISO I simply receive the result that no updates are applicable.
If I run the non SMART ISO I get a message that system services is disabled.
Most of the solutions I'm seeing refer to iDRAC which is not an option on this server.
Previously I was experiencing BMC communication errors during boot but clearing the system CMOS fixed this.
Any suggestion on how to proceed with the system services update.
Just found that system services can be enabled through the BMC setup. However, if I enable system services they appear to be disabled immediately on the next reboot so no further forward !
Thanks
Rob

Good morning Rob,
What you might consider starting off with is first performing a power drain to restart the BMC module on the system. Once that is done, look for a Control + E prompt during POST to access it. What we're looking for is an option to see if the Unified Server Configurator or Lifecycle controller (USC/LCC) are disabled. Firmware updates get run through this system and if it is having an issue, it could explain why a bootable environment is failing the update process.

With that being the case, the only options I'm seeing is what you've already noted - to use the iDRAC. If that were to become an option, you could load the package into Remote Access > iDRAC > Update. You might see if you can use the Lifecycle controller to stream the package, instead of using the .iso. I haven't tried that before, so I can't say it would work for sure, just that it may be worth a try.
