OK, updating the BIOS as described above works, but when I run the BIOS update file from within Windows, it still reports an unknown BIOS-version and then aborts. When Windows is started, it reports the event "SMBIOS absent" in the eventlog....
If you reflash the bios again outside the OS, do you get the same error when the server restarts? Also, is the BMC\iDRAC express up to date as well? Both the bios and the BMC\iDRAC express should be at the most current levels.

Good morning.
Here is how to update the bios outside the OS:
1. Download this bios update: http://bit.ly/Ro9O3a once downloaded, rename file to update.exe
2. Download our 32 bit diagnostic package: http://bit.ly/R9KHDi Install on your pc and create a bootable USB key.
3. Once created, copy the update.exe file to the root of the USB key.
4. Boot the server with the USB key to the 32 bit diagnostic menu
5. Choose option 4 to exit the menu, you will be at a DIAG>D: prompt
6. Change to DIAG>C:
7. Run the update.exe and then restart the server once completed. This will update your bios.
