T620 Lifecycle Controller Firmware Update bricked PSU???
We have a T620 with 2 identical 750watt PSUs as supplied with the server.
Today I have finally managed to do a well overdue Platform/firmware update but have ended up with only 1 functioning PSU.
The front panel LCD shows error:
PSU0006 Power supply 1 is incorrectly configured. Check PSU
The PSU in slot 1 has a flashing orange light
Within the Lifecycle controller firmware update, View Current Versions:
Power Supply.Slot.1 - Version 07.00.00
Power Supply.Slot.2 - Version 07.2B.7D
If I try Launch Firmware Update again I get the message:
Two PSUs of different wattages are installed in the system. They are greyed-out to prevent permanent damage upon simultaneous update. To update the firmware on the PSUs, either individually perform the updates or make sure that both PSUs are of the same wattage.
I am then unable to select either to update. In Launch Firmware Rollback i do not see an option to roll back the PSU firmware.
I saw the message on the 'Select Update Repository' screen warning 'If two PSUs of different wattages are installed, do not perform a simultaneous update' but as they are both 750w I didn't think there would be a problem.
Is there anything I can do to either rollback the PSU firmware or update them individuallly? Will this even help or is the PSU bricked?

Hi Josh
I have tried all of that but the system wouldn't boot on the bad PSU.
I've had a replacement PSU under warranty now so all fixed.

Hi idemann,
If you try to disconnect power supply 2, so that only the power supply with the older firmware is connected will it power on and let you update? You may also want to try and drain the power from the system with both power supplies unplugged so that the lifecycle controller gets reset. Is the lifecycle controller and iDRAC firmware up to date as well?

Lifecycle controller hosed 2 of my power supplies while updating the firmware.
I don't know if it was a bad code for the update or exactly what happened.
Not only that, after being told by Dell that it would not happened if the lifecycle failed, the lifecycle again went to update when I installed the new power supply (fortunatly I did only 1 of 2) and it took out the replacement!!!
I finnaly got into lifecycle controller and gave it the deep 6.
In the meantime, Dell sent out a repair rep to change the Power Module and the now 3rd hosed power supply.
Lifecycle controller is a misnomer. It should be called Lifecycle terminator!!

Same problem for me with a PowerEdge R620. De PSU firmware update will cause a bricked PSU2 with the LCD error 'PowerSupply 2 is incorrectly configured, Check PSU'. Dell send me a new PSU now but I do not perform a new PSU firmware update anymore.

I awaiting the arrival of two new 1100W power supplies for a T620 that suffered the exact same fate! Clearly, Dell platform firmware updates are much riskier than I realised.

Google led me here because I just had a similar problem with a Dell R630 that bricked the PSU after a firmware update. In my case I was able to get the PSU back by NOT using the Lifecycle controller. What I ended up doing was building a Windows 10 disk and putting the needed firmware executable on the desktop for the admin user. I then rebooted the system into windows 10 and ran the PSU update and it brought it back to life.
