T710 Server - x86 Server 2003 OS installed
We acquired a company that had Dell servers, so I am not that familiar. We have 3 T710 servers, 2 of which had Server 2003 x86 Standard installed, the other had 2003 x 64 Standard Edition installed.
The T710 has a Xeon 5550 quad proc, which is x64. I have never directly installed an x86 edition OS, on x64 hardware, other then in a virtualized environment.
The SBUU utility, allows me to choose the x86 OS and copies the media. Then when it does the initial boot of the text mode of the OS install it freezes on Setup is starting Windows. This does not happen if I install the x64 edition on the same box.
I'm assuming the x86 edition that was once installed on this system was done OEM by Dell. I know the answer would seem obvious that I need to install the x64 edition, but the vendor's app that will be running on this system does not yet support x64 environment.
Any help would be appreciated.

In addition to the requirement that SP2 be on your disk, you will often experience problems if you are using Volume License media, downloaded from Microsoft. If this is the case, you can install directly from the OS CD - this will require more work to install it, but it is possible. (More work, meaning you will need to use the RAID driver at F6 in order for Windows to see the hard drives and hunt down the correct drivers post-install.) Many of the drivers for the R710 require SP2, so either way you will need to create a disk with SP2 on it. You can use http://nliteos.com to integrate both service packs and drivers into your installation media to address both the RAID issue (since you probably don't have floppy drive) and the SP2 issue.

Thanks for the reply. I am using Volume License Media, and using the media was my next step. I tried it without the SBUU, and it did the same thing. I guess I will try it with the SP2 slipstreamed.. I only wish the application vendor supported x64, we are sacrificing alot of horsepower (not t to mention the memory addressing capabilities), by using an x86 based OS instead of x64...
Oh well, I guess that's why we have jobs, to sort this stuff out, and be knowledgable...
Thanks again for both of you who responed, it's much appreciated.
