trying to confirm R710's raid settings
hi all
can anyone help me confirm whether the R710's internal raid controller can do raid 10? I found the R710 tech guide (http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pedge/en/server-poweredge-r710-tech-guidebook.pdf).
It says that I can do raid 10 on page 43, but when I get into the bios of the server I only see raid 0, 1 and 5.
I have 1X 150 GB and 4 X 500GB drives. I want the four 500GB to be in a raid 10 setup so I can have a 1 TB raid setup.
Thanks
davy

The PERC 6/i supports RAID 10.
You can't do ANYTHING with a drive if it is showing as foreign. You must first clear the foreign configuration. Go to the VD MGMT screen, highlight the controller, hit F2, Foreign, Clear. Once the drive shows as ready, then you will be able to select all 4 disks.

Yes, it does support RAID 10.
Are all four of your disks the exact same model?
Are all four disks seen on the PD MGMT screen?
Is the status above READY for all disks?
Which RAID controller do you have?

the 4 disks are not presented as ready. only three of them are.
one is listed as foreign. and for some reason I can't seem to delete the previous raid group.

I have perc 6/i, but i guess I should probably update its driver first. I just finished flashing the bios from 1.x to the latest (which is 6. something).
