VRTX Getting started and O/S advice
Hi All
We have just purchased a VRTX with 2 x M520 server nodes.
My plan is to install Server 2012 R2, once its released, on both servers and use Hyper-V to run virtual servers on them. I'm hoping to use the shared storage to allow fail-over of running VM's from one M520 server to the other.
Any advice on getting started with this, what to watch out for and any key points on configuring this?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and assistance given.

Blue407,
There are a few options you will have in this. Mostly dependant on the shared storage you are referring to. DO you know the device you are wanting to use? Attached I have the Solution Guides for Hyper-V including a Storage Solution Guide. Review that to determain which path you would be interested in and I would be happy to help you in getting it going.

Hi Chris
When you say do I know which device I am wanting to use, I mentioned in my first post that we have just purchased a VRTX with 2 blades and a number of SAS disks.
Its this I want to configure, but I need to understand the options and paths available to me so I can make an informed decision as to the route to go?
Thanks for taking the time to assist :)

Hi Chris
Would you have time to come back to me on this?
Thanks

I've looked through the guide you sent through, unfortunately they are for Server 2008 and not Server 2012 R2 which is what we will be using.
We are looking at high availability running on the 2 separate physical blades, sharing the storage between them.

Sorry Blue,
I was under the impression you were wanting to use shared storage such as a SAN, not the chassis shared storage.
Your first step will be to create/configure/initalize the Virtual Disks (Luns) in the controllers. After that you can install Windows Hyper-V and then utilize them. This guide goes over some of the options available to you, such as Chassis Shared Storage, Clustering, and also MS requirements for proper function running on the VRTX.

Let me know if this is what you are wanting to do.

Yes, we are wanting to utilise the shared storage in the VRTX for the whole cluster.
Is there full dell support available for Server 2012 R2? Drivers etc?
