What power supply does the Compellent SC8000 use?
I bought a used Compellent SC8000 without a PSU, and I’d like to use it in my home lab, but I have no idea which PSU I should get. I’m still not sure whether it needs both PSUs or only one, because I don’t need redundancy.

IIRC (my training for SC8000 was in 2012) it was based on the PowerEdge R720. So get get 750W PSUs for a R720.

Thank you, and does it need both PSUs to function, or its just for redundancy?

I excpet that the CM boots will boot with just a single PSU but who now how SCOS reacts and may disable the cache.
You are aware that a SC8000 at least based on 2 CMs, 1x JBOD(with certified disks) the SCOS and LICENSES?

Just to clarify, this is my first time working with a real server; I bought it for €20.
The SC8000 that I bought doesn’t have a RAID controller or card, and I’m planning to use the two internal SATA ports to boot from and use as storage. I heard that some people used it with Proxmox and other Linux distros

Ah ok... than you have wasted 20 bucks. You should get a real PowerEdge with a SAS/SATA Backplane and 2.5" or 3.5" slots for your disks. When ever possible get with a inbuild PERC.
A Compellent was a storage system based on 2 "Server" which acts each as a Controller Modul. After the acquisition the SC8000 was the first based on a dell branded hardware and they took a PowerEdge 720 as the base for the appliance.

@Origin3k
So, is there no way for me to use it as a standalone system at all?
