R410 - Test a new HDD

Hi,My name is Emiliano.I have an R410, I have a raid 5, 100% functional.I bought a disk and I would like to test the disk to see if it works, for warranty reasons. Is there a safe method to test this disk on the R410, without causing data loss from Raid 5?

Emi87,

If the drives are connected via backplane then there shouldn't be any issue with just sliding the drive into a slot and then checking its status under the Physical Disk page in the controller bios.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello
I have remote access controller 6.
I guess I can't see the health of the disks in the idrac.
I can't install omsa since I have esxi.

If the server isn't in production, and you have and iDrac Enterprise, then using the Virtual Console you could reboot and access the Perc 6 via the prompt during start up.

You can also follow the walkthrough here to use OpenManage in ESXi.

Hi Chris!
The server is in production. I can turn it off for a while to test the HDD. But I don't want to lose information on the disks.

Hi,
To test the new HDD I bought, should I put the HDD in the offline task and put the new HDD in the disk I left offline?

Hello emi87,

I don't think it's gonna lead to data loss eventually but it could be risky till the rebuilidng is finished.
Basically, by making a disk offline on a healthy raid= risking data

Respectfully,
