What I have seen in our enterprise, is that 4.5 by default will NOT let you install Array Manager. Instead, it installs 'Storage Management', a snapin in the ServerAdministrator website. When we now want to install Array Manager, we first install V4.5 (at which default also Storage Management is checked, but array manager IS available here). After that we upgrade to V4.5.

Please report if it helped.

Hi Robert,

I have find the problem :

With the new version of Dell OpenManage CD V4.5, the Storage Manager is install by default. This one remplace the Array Manager. All the features in Array Manager is now present in the Storage Manager of Server Administrator.

So, in my mew PE1800 all is fine.

I have, this week, reinstall a old PE2850 (Aug. 2005) with new CD V4.5. The Storage Manager will not detect my Perc 4e/DI and the array manager will not work corretly. After upgraded all firmware and a reinstall the Server Administrator, it work fine.

I think that Dell will dead Array Manager fo including all the features in the Server Administrator. Array Manager is only for use on old PE.

Let me know if it help.

I'm personnaly use the MMC of Array Manager and i think this one better than connect on each server for see the array status. We have a lot of server and check-it manually is a long process.

I don't have really tested the rapidity between the Array Manager and the Storage Manager. but it's really possible that the Storage Manager is slower.

When a MMC or Server Manager Program that connect on each server and send all the information(log, status...) in one "monitoring" place and that use a MasterDB like SQL server  ?

I know, but personally the old Array Manager runs miles around the Storage Management from Server Administrator. I just don't like to do everything webbased, where I can't use my right-mouse-button to do things, the view is less informative, and for my feeling it works just generally slower. So on all our 160 Windows based Poweredges, of all different types that are available, we still run Array Manager. Very nice because you can use it remotely using a MMC snap-in, whilst using the StorageManagement you have to login in the webinterface on all machines seperately... For me it is deffenitely not a step upwards...

Anyway, indeed Storage Management is highly dependant of the firmwarelevel of the machine. Glad you fixed it though.

hi Eric,

I recently found out that OMSA4.5 only has Storage Manager option (by default), Array Manager option is "hidden". To activate it, you have to type in this command to command line:

C:\OpenManage\windows\SystemsManagement\sysmgmt.msi ENABLEAM=YES

Then you will be able to install Array Manager instead of Storage Manager. C:\OpenManage folder represents folder where you have unpacked your OMSA .exe file that you've downloaded from Dell Support Site.

Regards

Sébastien

Hi Sebastien,

I have tested on my PE1800 (test Lab). When the AM is intalled and when i run it, i've allways the same error message :(

I don't have the choice to use the web console 'Storage Management'.
