DR4100 Password Reset

Hi,

We have a DR4100 that has been sitting idle for a bit and we'd like to re-purpose.  However, the root password has been forgotten and the default password does not allow me to login.  I used a bootable Linux USB to try and mount the filesystem with the root password but everything appears to be NTFS (?).

Is there a way to reset the root password, even a full factory reset would be acceptable.

Thank you

Bill

Hello wdgreen340a,

Well it all depends on what you want to reset. I offer several option to perform several different reset operations:

Two options are available for resetting a password in the login screen. One option requires only the Service Tag and the second option requires the Service Tag and Administrator Email address. This second option also has two optional security questions. So when login it depends on what option was configured.

From the Login window, you can select Reset Password. If the Service Tag option was the one selected you can use it to reset the password. Or email if it was this option choosen.

You also can use Restore Manager from a bootable USB. (Read this: https://dell.to/2TZTKeT). If you select the Restore option: Restore resets all data disks, NVRAM, and the PowerVault DR4100 OS disks to factory values during the OS reinstallation. The result is that all stored data is erased.

You can also reset the NVRAM_CLR jumper inside your system and restore the BIOS to the default settings.

You have a option to Reset the Network Configuration to Factory Settings. Obsously the existing configuration will be lost and the system must be restarted to complete a factory reset. Network configuration changes cannot be undone. This operation will allow you to go back to the factory installed configuration. You can use the command:
# network --factory_reset

I hope any of this solutions help you.

Regards.

Thank you very much for your help - the restore manager USB seems like the way we'd like to go.  However, I'm not finding the .img file for the DR4100.  Is that because it is an older system?  Is there a location where I can download a newer image file or is that even an option?

Thank you again for your help
