Linear disk groups with NRAID performance

Hi,

I am setting up a PowerVault ME4084 with 42 disks of 11TB each.

The Storage array is directly attached to a server via SAS. The idea is to access the storage as only one big volume from the server.
Here is what I am planning to do:

- Create 42 linear disk groups with NRAID

- Create 42 volumes

- Map the 42 volumes to the server so I can see them as disks from the server

- Create a zfs pool with 5 x raidz2 of 8 disks + 2 hotspares

My question is what performance I can expect with this setup ?

Thanks for your answers in advance

Hi,

We finally found a solution. USing ADAPT raid level and LVM.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Baba-Tunde,

It is hard for us to say what your performance is as we don’t recommend configuring an ME4084 this way. With a ME4084 you lose a lot of the benefits & features that are included in the ME4084 when you use Liner instead of virtual.

What would be best, is for you to return your ME4084 and get an ME484.  With an ME484 you can have all the drives present to your host and then have the OS control your raid configuration.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to return the storage array anymore. What alternative could you suggest us ?
Since we would like to be able to access the storage via only one big volume.

Best,

Hello Baba-Tunde,

It is best to call into support so that they can help you configure your system.  Since you are not able to return it, support will need to assist you in the setup to try to achieve what you are looking to get out the system.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
