PowerVault MD3800i Performance issues

Hi all,

I have a PowerVault MD3800i that might be acting strangely.

All VM seems to be suffering from slow'ish performance

attached are some screen shots, the most odd one is the flat line from the performance graphs. Also I do not know what the out of band messages means.,

Thanks for any thoughts

Regards

Hello Berttielp,

What is the current version of firmware on your MD3800i?  How many connections per controller?  Are you doing any replication?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi

the firmware is 08.25.04.60

There is one network connection per controller

There is no replication

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Hello Rob,

You are going to want to add a second connection per controller.  With an MD3800i you want to have a minimum of 2 connections per controller.  once you add a second connection you should see your performance improve.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,

The question I have is this.

To me when a performance monitor show a flat line something odd is going on. When I look at any performance chart (cpu / ram / io) I would expect to see peaks and dips over time.

I understand about the dual cards etc thank you for that.

Hello @Berttielp,

My experience with MDSM Performance monitor is that it used to be pretty constant in terms of this graphical representation. Maybe it is also because the time stamp is only considering a 3-4 minute difference. A bigger time stamp would help to see more changes on the graphic.

Also, once you add the second connection per controller you will see a better result in the performance. Now is sort of capped at that point.

Regards.
