5820 bios update 2.4.0 stuck at 100%

Question

My Precision 5820 has been wanting and trying to do the bios update 2.4.0 for some time now and at the moment it is stuck at 100%.

I followed the instructions for "Updating the BIOS from BIOS Boot Menu" on the link below here and yes bitlocker is off

This system has been trying to do this flash for quite some time. Initially it was trying from Windows update (or some Dell maintenance SW). The system would reboot and on startup it would try the flash but get hung at 0%. The first few times I waited and let the system try overnight. In the morning I gave up and hit the power button and the system rebooted and skipped the flash (I felt luck it still worked). For months I was really just trying to avoid rebooting the system as this happened every time. So today I gave I and tried the USB method. Now it is stuck at 100% and I am more worried.

If it stalls at 0%, turn off the power and reboot. Unplug all USB connections and download and install BIOS again. It will now stall at 100%. Plug in all USB connections, turn the power off and reboot. It will now show as the BIOS being installed.

I have the same model and had the exact same problem with bios attempting installation for months getting stuck at 0 percent. Today, it finally installed and now my system no longer boots at all. On the Dell screen it says: 'Preparing Automatic Repair'. A few moments later it says the system cannot be repaired and instructs me to shut down the tower. Seriously?

I normally simply double click the downloaded BIOS executable file on my desktop, while in Windows. Never had a problem. The system reboots, flashes, and restarts. Have you tried this?

If you're system or battery is 5+ years old, replace the size 2032 motherboard battery with a new one. Bad batteries affect BIOS.
