5820 fan speed / noise
Heya folks,
Anyone got a program that can read fan speeds and give fan control?
I've downloaded Hwinfo, speedfan, argus. None give any fan data.
Basically - Even when idling / doing nothing the fan will regularly spin up to loud levels, whilst the cpu load is pretty much nil.
It's an i9, so, appreciate it *could* generate a lot of heat. But the CPU temps I can see are mid 30's etc, but stay more or less the same regardless of the fan speed even with the load basically being task manager.

There is a (Google) "Dell troubleshoot fan noise" article. But for the most part, trying to troubleshoot high speed fan issues in some Dell's have been sol for quite some time.
Advices that have been given: Make sure PC is clean. Reset CMOS. As for suggested downloads, that you did already.

Heya Simonez,
So - Random one - Tilt the base unit to the side - And the fans calm down - immediately.
I don't know what Dell are up to in the Precision 5820 engineering teams.
But thats the only "solution" so far.
No BIOS updates have done anything - So - It's another thermal issue for Dell!

Hello, were you able to determine which fan making noise? It may not be the CPU fan if there is no load and the temp is low. Reseat fan plug for proper PWM connection.
There are two system fans at one end of the airduct. Open the airduct chamber and check fan plugs and cage screws.
And there are 2 smaller fans at the back of the flexbay backplane. You might want to check the backplane's fans as they have couple of thermal sensor cables connecting to the motherboard as well. Just check to see if they are connecting properly.

We are having this exact problem. The fans run constantly. If nothing is going on, should this machine be quiet?

Indeed, it should be quiet if idling.

chipwoods,
Have you updated the bios on the system to see if that will quiet the noise?

Simonez,
Did you update the bios from here to see if that will resolve the fan noise?

I am having the same issue. We bought 5 machines, 2 of them with normal spinning hard drive, and they are fine. However, the 2 machines with NVMe drive are having the fan issue. As soon as I put a spinning hard drive in, the fan is back to normal .... Called support, and they have no idea either.

Make sure you're using the latest version of HWinfo. Ver 7.34 is able to read almost everything on my T7910 including all the fans. Note however that you cannot control the fan speeds. IF HWinfo is able to control any fan, the only modes that work are 'Auto' and 'Full speed'. This is by design as the Dell engineers wanted to avoid overheating no matter what. There is no software that can control the fans as the BIOS simply doesn't allow it. AFAIK

@DELL-Jesse Lā I know this is a really late reply, however I've never adressed this fan issue. I will try to update the bios from teh link you sent but everything is already up to date on my workstation and the issue is still there...I've contacted the customer service but they said this is normal beavuour (which I don't think so). Are there any news on this issue? Thank you
