7960 Memory mixing (4 x 16GB + 4 x 64GB, both lots 4800MHz)

My 7960 Workstation shipped with 4 lots of 16GB PC5-4800B-RD0-1010-XT (64GB); I've since purchased 4 lots of 64GB 2Rx4 PC5-4800B-RA0-1010-XT (256GB).  I'd like to just stick the new stuff in along with the old stuff and hope it all works without a problem.  Now I know it's a weird combination, but is it something that'll work, oh mighty Dell hive mind?

cheers!

Dell Precision 7960 Workstation supports a maximum memory capacity of 512 GB. The system is designed to support DDR4-2400MHz UDIMM memory modules.
The system you have, which originally shipped with 64GB, is compatible with the 256GB memory modules you have purchased. However, it is recommended to ensure that the memory modules are compatible with each other and the system itself.

The best case scenario would be: The system will downclock all memory to the speed of the slowest modules (which are likely your original 16GB modules). This means that your new, faster memory will run at the slower speed, potentially negating any performance benefits you might have gotten from the upgrade.

It's recommended by Dell to use memory modules with the same capacity and speed for optimal performance and stability. You can view the memory matrix for better understanding.

@Alptech Expert I'm not sure that information you posted is correct - as far as I know, the 7960 supports up to 4TB of memory (in Xeon systems), and it's designed to support DDR5-4800MHz memory.

My modules are the same speed, I'm just wondering if my system will be happy with a mix of 16 and 64GB modules; the 64GB modules occupying banks 1-4 and the 16GB modules occupying banks 5-8.

@johnnyboyc Correct!!, if you don't want issues with system performance. make sure all modules are the same model and size, invest from the start, adding more memory later on can cause issues, been there and done that!!

Use the Memory Matrix, it will become your best friend!!
